The stave of the bow is made up of four strips of wood (kind of
wood unknown) along apparently the whole length of the two limbs,
which are glued together (see section) and form the 'back', the
'sides' and the 'heart'; the belly being made up of a gelatinous
substance, and the whole of the stave enveloped with bark (of a
thick brown colour like cherry)
