box did not open as it was dovetailed into sides. Was this merely an inner tray in a larger box, which would lift out when bolt was drawn? There was no trace of lid, & no signs of attachment to anything else on sides or bottom. A small piece of wood of the same thickness (ebony?) .3.6 wide 1.1 + wide was also found.

Cleaned with damp brush Repaired with celluloid cement.
