54 ddd. Ivory Casket

Position: Removed from top of the box before the first photograph was taken.

Dimensions: H. 13.2; L. 15.6; W. 12.2

Description: A rectangular solid ivory casket supported by four square feet, of stile, rail, and panel design. It is constructed of ten (including the lid) slabs of ivory. Each side comprises one slab carved to imitate panel with top and bottom rail (= 4) Each stile and foot comprises one piece (= 4), the portion joining the stile cut to width to coincide with rail - the foot (below bottom of box) being left solid. The bottom of the box of one piece cut, bevelled and rebated to fit rails and stiles. (= 1) The lid of one piece carved to imitate two panels with stiles & rails. (= 1)
