Handlist description: Blue faience ewer

Card/Transcription No.: 054-3

54. Contents (cont.)

This must refer to the ewers, which are a rich lapis lazuli blue. There were 17 ewer-lids, but only 16 ewers. what has become of the other. Some of these were probably in their original position - e.g. 5 were ranged against the east side, and three against the north. (Probable original arrangement 3 rows of 5. Only one had its lid still in position. Thrown in with these in no sort of order there were other faience cups, 3 statuettes, (one in glass, one in limestone, one in silver(?)), 2 gloves(?) a bangle, a collar, etc. etc. Near the bottom of the box there was a piece from one of the chariots, this fact showing both the extent of the damage done by the plunderers, and also the casual nature of the repacking. For individual objects see separate cards. Another of the ewers found on floor (see 69)

5. Remarks Ebony frame cleaned with damp sponge, and red painted panels sprayed with solution of celluloid in acetone.
