(k) Cont. Gold bars

<> 4.5

Each made of two pieces of sheet gold, bent over double to form flat tube. To inner edges of these were soldered tubes to fit. These decorated with incised horizontal corrugated lines. A pin ran through these, so that bar worked on hinge, and sides came apart when pin was withdrawn. Thread rings soldered on at end where bars joined clasps. Three pierced thread holes on side to fit collar strings. Three similar pierced holes on other side. These may have been for strings to support makeweight. On upper side, at each end, two rings soldered on slanting inwards towards each other. These may have been for stay strings to tighten up garment when on.
