61. Alabaster ornamental unguent vase, upon ornamental stand

Dimensions Max. H. 61.0, Max. W. 25.5; H. of vase 36.5, H. of stand 24.5.

Description. An elongated ornamental vase flanked with side ornament cut out of one piece of alabaster (calcite). Upon bowl of vase a rectangle surmounted with <> containing the two cartouches of the King: <> incised and filled with black pigment. The sides are flanked with open-work lotus and papyrus floral device denoting the binding the Two Lands - i.e., Up. and Low. Eg., and have rnpt. hfn margins symbolizing eternity. The lower margin is decorated with <> on the one side (pap) and <> on the other side (lotus), incised and filled in with green pigment. The ornamental stand cut out of one block of alabaster, is of tall ring-stand type having in open- work at the sides w3d - columns, connected to the central ring-stand by tendrils of scroll form. The tendrils have incised central lines filled in with dark green pigment. The vase and stand are cemented together with cement. (see note A.L. No. 58).
