88. Wooden foot-stool (belonging to Chair No. 87) (see No. 87)

Position Not in original position, though probably in original place.

Dimensions L. 51.0; W. 28.2 (deducting crack); H. 11.2.

Description (?) Cedar wood with bottom foot-rails of ebony. The external surface, viz: top and two sides, carved (incised relief) with scenes of captives thus: Upper surface: a central band of text reading <>; on the right hand side four African captives and five bows; on the left hand side four Asiatic captives & five bows. Side facing person seated: in centre the sm3 device uniting North and South, together with on the right three African captives <>, <>, bound with lotus; and on the left three Asiatic captives <>, <>, bound with papyrus. Side furtherest from person seated: similar motive and details with texts reading: R. <>, <>; L. <>, <>.
