3. Description. Footstool of reddish wood (cedar?), ebony & ivory. Framework of red wood throughout. Centre panels. Border of inlaid slips of ebony and ivory, circ. .2 wide, 2 of each, ebony being outside, corners being mitred. At ends inlaid into end slats of frame: at sides inlaid into first ebony cross slat. Centres of panels consisted of 11 narrow slips of ebony & red wood, six of ebony & 5 of red wood. Average width of these slips .9. Top fastened to sides by wooden pegs: 4 on each side. At top of side boards on each side, at corner, slips were let in, angled on one side (see diagram) straight on other. Purpose ? Treatment. Washed with water, then with strong ammonia to remove persistent white stains & then with water again. Refastened loose inlay with celluloid cement. 4. Contents Resting on the stool there were a number of objects -
