Handlist description: Wheels, from chariot 122

Card/Transcription No.: 122c-1

(c) Wheels Diagram see next sheet. Entirely covered with gesso & overlaid with gold. This makes details of construction difficult to make out. Felloe of two curved pieces of wood mitred together, pegged and glued. Spokes each of two independent pieces of wood. Doubtful how they fasten to hub. Strips of extra gold applied on either side of each spoke, and round joints. These were .8 wide, & were ornamented with rope pattern. At outer ends of hubs a band of plain wood without stucco, probably for gold collar. Outer edge of felloe covered with gesso, but not gilt. The chariot can hardly have been used: probably only carried in the funeral procession. Represent Tombs nos. 131 & 136.
