Diam. 1.7 constant. This is a different wood from the preceding, a hard-grained dark reddy-brown: without knots. From E downwards natural surface of wood left. Top of handle plain dark A. Light patterns on dark. B. Alternate plain dark & plain light bands, dark about 1. wide, light about 1.2. C. Light patterns on dark. D. Cartouches (usual) mixture of dark & light, flanked by 'millions of years'. E. Light on dark. F. Natural surface of wood.

Washed plain wood with water. Treated ornamentation with melted paraffin wax
