139. Folding(?) stool of ebony, ivory, gold & leather

1. Position Under hind legs of lion couch: behind chair 39.

2. Dimensions W. 42.5. Height & depth depend on amount of spread of legs. This now doubtful as leather seat gone. W between inner legs at top 15; between outer legs at bottom 18.3.

3. Description Seat consisted of two curved slats of wood 42.5 x 7.5-8 x .7 thick. Outer edges rounded. Curve in centre 8.5 from horizontal. Slats set to incline slightly inwards. These slats covered with red leather, which continued between them to form seat. Seat part of this leather had almost entirely disappeared, having melted to a glue like substance. Scraps remaining showed that there had been a stamped pattern on the leather. Underneath, running diagonally from cover to cover extra slips 1.1 wide. Legs To the seat were attached diagonally four round legs, two to each slat, which crossed in their centres, and were
