In ducks' open mouths cross bars of ebony 38.5 long x 2.3 in diam. Between ducks' heads and ends of these bars covered with gesso overlaid with gold. Under sides of these bars in centre, where they rested on ground, covered with yellow bark. Bronze pins, with ivory washers .7 in diam., fastened ducks' heads to these bars. On upper part of legs, in centre of the gold bands round cross bars of ebony .1 in diam. Where they joined legs there were flaring caps of ivory 1.3 long, 2.5 x 2 at legs. Ends of these were concave to fit legs. Inside these bands .7 wide, consisting of three narrow rings of ivory with .1 of ebony between each.
