176 EGYPTIAN GOOSE - covered with black resin

POSITION: (?) Original. Beside east wall, south end, of sepulchral chamber. Head towards south.

DIMENSIONS: Max. H. 40.5 Pedestal L. 42.5 W. 19.0. H. 5.5 centimetres.

DESCRIPTION: From the swan-like character of this figure of a goose it seems to represent the very wary species CHENALOPEX EGYPTIACUS (Linn) evenly distributed throughout Egypt and Nubia, and to be about natural size. Wood covered with linen to receive coating of black resin. Beak white. Upon oblong pedestal (solid wood) in front of goose the following legend: <> painted in pale whitish yellow.

The figure was covered with linen (see photo).

REMARKS: Cleaned bird with benzine and small brush: cleaned base with damp sponge. Repaired resin coating with celluloid cement: sprayed with acetone.
