Roof section

The roof, as aforesaid - round fronted with slight slope towards the back and vertical sides and end - is made up in two sections. Their meeting edges in the centre where they join together are rebated, and for convenience of transport as well as for lowering them onto the upper surface of the members of the cavetto cornice, to which they are tongued, they each have four (two on each side) silver coated copper handles of staple-like form. Their tongues, mortised to the cornice members, are made of wood & copper alternate. Thus their two sections serve a double purpose - while forming the actual roof of the shrine, they hold in place the crowning members of its entablature.
