Handlist description: Fourth (innermost) shrine

239 FOURTH (INNERMOST) SHRINE

POSITION: Within the third (inner) shrine, No. 238.

DIMENSIONS: The shrine was not a true rectangle, but the following dimensions will suffice to show its size: - ground (i.e. base) measurement. L. W. 293.5 x 162 cents. The sides and ends show a batter (i.e. receding slope from the ground upwards) of about 3.33 cents per 1 metre vertical. Max. measurement: L. 309 x W. 181 cents - i.e. extreme edges of cornice. Total height: 195.5 cents, including roof.

DESCRIPTION: Constructed of wood, covered with gesso, and overlaid with thin sheet gold. The shrine was made up of 7 sections - 1 roof section, which includes the cornice; 1 N. side panel; 1 S. side panel; 1 east end frame and 2 doors; 1 west end panel - which were morticed and tenoned together.
