245 LONG FAN - Ebony stock covered with sheet gold incrusted
with glass.             1

POSITION: Original. Lying on ground, south side, between the third andfourth innermost shrines, feathers towards east. (See photo).

DIMENSIONS: Max. L. 124.7 cents (for other details see note).

DESCRIPTION: A long fan such as is pictured behind kings on the monuments. The stock or handle of solid ebony, decorated with six bands or collars of sheet gold incrusted with calcite, lapis lazuli and turquoise glass. (See photo). The end or handle of plain sheet gold. (See photo). The top end terminates with the conventional papyrus flower of sheet gold, bearing on side the symbols <> engraved on the gold, with conventional gold, lapis lazuli glass and calcite calix; immediately joining this is a collar of gold, lapis lazuli and turquoise glass bands alternate, and a geometrical floral decoration of similar materials. The palm of the fan, fixed on to the papyrus flower top, is of red wood (inferior to the ebony) covered on both sides with sheet gold incrusted with turquoise, lapis lazuli,
