300, A. SEATED FIGURE OF THE GODDESS SEKHET (or Sekhmet)

Covered with two pieces of linen, one fine the other of coarse fabric, the coarse piece inscribed (see note P. E. N.) Wreath of flowers around neck (see note). Max. H. (including pedestal) 55.2, pedestal 29.6 x 14.9 x 5.6, cms. The goddess seated upon a throne, carved of wood gesso-gilt, wears a long skirt and bodice having quatre-foil pattern (i.e., bead mesh ornamentation) scale pattern on the throne with the symbolical Tie of the Two Kingdoms on either side. A solar disk upon the head of the goddess, the symbols which she holds in her hands omitted, her eyes and nose inlaid glass, quartz, etc. The pedestal, varnished with black resin, has an inscription in yellow paint reading: <> Remarks: The pedestal being too long for the chest, a portion was cut off.
