315. PLAIN WOODEN BOX (See 316 & 317) 1

POSITION:
N. side of canopic shrine; front end against east wall; the lid had been removed and put
back the wrong way. (See photo.)

DIMENSIONS:
L. 60.3; W. 42; Max. H. (including lid) 52, cents.

DESCRIPTION:
Plain wooden box; oblong in shape; stands on four rectangular legs; has torus and cavetto
cornice; gable shaped lid; ebony knob on top and front to which cord was tied and sealed:
cord broken and seal dropped (see I & O). (See photo 316.)

CONTENTS:
Stolen: only the packing material left (see photo). Interior of box divided up into eight
compartments, proving it to have contained eight objects which from the careful packing
must have been of delicate nature. The packing material comprises short cut lengths of
papyrus reeds and shredded pith of the same length and material, namely the pith of the
papyrus reed. The packing material had been so much disturbed as to prevent any chance of
deducing the shape of the objects contained. (See photo.)
