415. STOCK OF FAN. 1

POSITION: Thrown among alabaster & wine-jars below threshold of doorway of chamber (see photos 1138 and 1139).

DIMENSIONS: Max. L. 54.0, cents.; w. of pelmet 7.4, cents.

DESCRIPTION: The stock of a fan made of ivory and wood, and embellished with gold. Pelmet carved out of solid ivory: Recto - winged uraeus stained dark brown & red, details of hood picked out with gold- foil; solar-disc stained red, uzat-eyes stained dark-brown; shen- symbol stained red with dark-brown border; the prenomen and nomen of King incised & filled in with blue pigment. Verso - similar to recto, exception being the signs <> & <> on side of solar-disc are stained red & dark brown. The Fleur-de-lis stained red and dark-brown. The Capitulum, of solid ivory stained dark brown with exception of calyces of the papyrus umbel are plain ivory delineated in dark-brown. The Shaft takes the form of a papyrus-reed & bud column: the capital of solid ivory stained dark-brown, having abacus and bindings of buds covered with gold-foil.
