488, A. SHIELD

POSITION: Under bedstead No. 466 (see photo 1142), under 492, but not shown in photo.

DIMENSIONS: Max. L. 74.0; Max. W. 50.5, cents.

DESCRIPTION: Shield, made of wood in several pieces pegged and glued together, the border and central panel covered with gesso and gilt, the remaining field covered with the hide of (?) a cheetah (see spots), the hair well preserved. The central panel is embossed with the prenomen and nomen of the king. The border quite plain gilt. A pair of holes pierced through the sides and at top through the border.

This specimen has unfortunately been badly broken. See No. 492 apparently a pair to this specimen Also compare Nos. 545 and 566.
