496. WOODEN KIOSK CONTAINING SHAWABTI-FIGURES

POSITION: Lying on side on S.W. corner of bedstead No. 497. (See photo. No. 1145 showing the imprint on corner of bed - the photo was taken after the kiosk was removed.) DIMENSIONS: 60.5 cents. high, 24 cents. wide, 22.5 cents. deep.

DESCRIPTION: Wood kiosk upon sledge, covered with black resin, of rough workmanship, vaulted roof (lid) made of one block of wood, knob on front end of roof and front of kiosk for cord and seal. Seal (slightly damaged) and cord intact. The seal impression represents the traditional recumbent jackal-like dog Anubis over the nine alien foes. CONTENTS: 16 shawabti-figures as follows: 1 large wood & gold figure (see 496, A), 5 wood gesso gilt figures (see 496, B & C) and 10 blue glazed pottery figures (see 496, D & E). These were packed in the kiosk without any particular order and with them was a group of 68 copper implements (496, F).
