four corners are embellished with minute cubes and strips of ebony and ivory. The carved and stained ivory scene upon the front panel depicts the king seated upon a cushioned chair (decorated with garlands), shooting wild-fowl and fish with bow and arrow. His feet rest upon a cushioned footstool, and squatting beside them is the queen, holding in her right hand a lotus flower, and in her left an arrow, while she looks up appealingly to the king. In front of the royal couple is a small rectangular pond full of water-lilies and fish, and above are arrow-pierced fleeing wild-fowl. Below the pond is an attendant bringing the king's quarry - a large fish and a wild-duck, each impaled upon an arrow. The field of the background is
