588 SINGLE-HANDLED JAR (CALCITE) 1
(Amenhetep III and Tyi)

POSITION:    
Centre of S. end of chamber, thrown on top of miscellaneous
objects - (see photos 1149, and 1150).
DIMENSIONS:  
MAX. H. 41 cents; DIAM. of lip 18.5 cents.

DESCRIPTION: 
Single-handled jar; globular bowl; round flat foot; cylindrical
neck; wide lip; broad flat handle; wrought in semi-translucent
calcite.

The only ornamentation is the imitative lashing of handle on
neck, binding and ribbing of handle to imitate (?) leather.

Has an inscription on bowl giving the names of Amenhetep III and
Queen Tyi ( see note attached). It is of interest to note that
the nomen (i.e. the Amen name) of Amenhetep III has been defaced
and his prenomen carved in its place. The inscription is incised
& filled in with blue pigment, now darkened by fatty matter.
