620-3 BOWL (or cover to a vase) OF CALCITE

A bowl or (?) cover to a vase (note slight projection on centre of external surface suggesting handle broken off) of translucent calcite.

Diam. 21.4; cents.

Engraved on external surface, a border of garland design, circle of chequer pattern, and on centre an ornament after the form of calyx and sepals of the mandrake fruit.

<> green blue red green blue chequers blue blue blue green here possibly a handle broken off

Broken in several pieces (now mended).

The ornamentation engraved on surface and filled in with dark blue, green, and red pigment as per diagram.
