620-(121) LID OF BOX (PAINTED)

POSITION: Found among rubbish on floor of chamber.

DIMENSIONS: 24.7 x 20.7 x 1.1 cents.

DESCRIPTION: A lid of a box, gilt, and elaborately painted. The design on panels comprises collarettes and ear-rings, with bunch of ducks (pintail) and flowers in centre. The box to which this lid belongs has not been found among the funerary furniture of the tomb, and the conclusions are that the plunderers took it to carry away their plunder. From the designs upon the lid, it is possible that the box contained the King's collarettes and ear-rings, of which we found examples in the Antechamber and in the innermost treasury.

The condition of the painting is bad & much darkened from oil having been spilt upon it, (?) during the second robbery for the unguents and oils contained in the alabaster vessels that were stored in this chamber (the Annexe).
