266. Parapet of solar-uraei

Rows of fourteen on the N. and S. sides, and thirteen on the
E. and W. sides. They are carved of wood, overlaid with gesso
and gilt with a thin gold-foil, and are inlaid with lapis-blue, haematite-red and turquoise blue glass; their heads of
dark-blue glazed pottery with eye-sockets and eyes inlaid with
copper and glass. They are fixed to mitred rails, and each
length backed with a broad strip of linen.
