Dear Miss Ionides

I have never come upon a definite name for the support for mattresses on early beds. When we referred to it in the Dictionary of Furniture it was a "stretched net-work of cords" or "interlaced cords". "Coffer or Casket" on a stand would I think be accurate for the box.
