it comes forth screaming at sunrise and returns with even shriller screams when the sun sinks, it may be that the ancient Egyptians connected it in some way with the transformation of the soul of the Sun god, or the souls of the departed which come forth by day and return at night.

See B. of the D. Chap. LXXXVI. "Chapter whereby one assumeth the form of the swift", which begins "I am the swift ... I am the scorpion-bird, daughter of Ra".!!!!

It further says "If this chapter be known he will re-enter after coming forth by day".
