Ten albums of photographs, mostly of objects found in the tomb of Tutankhamun,
almost certainly assembled by Harry Burton.

The albums, which used to be in the possession of Howard Carter, measure on average some 43 by 28 by 6 cms. Several photographs in these albums were not previously known to us and do not appear in the Tutankhamun: Anatomy of an Excavation database. The albums show that some Burton photographs have been assigned two different numbers and this often explains the gaps in the series of images shown in our Gallery of Photographs.

Five albums from another, similar, set are in the Library of the University of Heidelberg. The albums in Oxford and Heidelberg contain the same selection of photographs but were sometimes put together in a slightly different way:

Heidelberg Album 1 = Griffith Institute Album 9; Heidelberg 2 = GI 6; Heidelberg 3 = GI 1; Heidelberg 4 (less complete than GI 5) = GI 5; Heidelberg 5 = GI 4 and end of GI 5
